Response Times

Due to our remote location, we may not be able to reply immediately. Please allow up to two working days — we respond to all enquiries as soon as possible.

How to Get Here

Follow the George Price Highway (formerly the Western Highway) through to Benque Viejo del Carmen. Upon entering town, follow the main boulevard around the sharp left turn indicated toward the border with Guatemala.

Along the boulevard you will pass three speed bumps — turn left at Daisy's Superstore. This is your last opportunity to stock up on snacks, batteries, toiletries, and beverages before heading out.

Continue straight ahead. The pavement ends after a few hundred yards, transitioning to a gravel road. Follow Hydro Road (also known as Mollejon Road) until you reach the Police Checkpoint. Turn right onto Arenal Road and continue until you reach Hillview Farm on your right-hand side.

Heads up: Cell service and internet become unavailable shortly after leaving Benque Viejo town. Google Maps and GPS are not always reliable on this route — please save directions offline before you depart. We recommend arriving before 6:00 pm so you can find your way and complete check-in before nightfall around 6:30 pm.

Renting a Vehicle & Driving

Several reputable Belizean and international car rental agencies operate directly from the airport. A four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended, though you can reach us — and explore much of the country — without one. How comfortable you are on unpaved roads will be the deciding factor, and Belize has plenty of them.

Breakdowns do happen on Belizean roads. When they do, what matters most is whether your rental agency responds quickly and gets you back on the road without sacrificing a day of your holiday. We have a trusted, long-standing relationship with Crystal Auto Rental and recommend them without hesitation.

Be aware that many agencies now use geofencing technology — a system that automatically disables the vehicle roughly one mile beyond Benque Viejo town. Some guests have successfully had the restriction removed upon request, but results are inconsistent and the process can be frustrating. To avoid the hassle entirely, consider our affordable countrywide shuttle service — a stress-free alternative that lets you sit back and enjoy the journey.

Before you drive away, check:

  • Tires have sufficient tread
  • Jack and spare tire are in the vehicle
  • The spare tire fits the rim of your vehicle

Travelling with Children

Belize is a wonderfully family-friendly destination, and Hillview Farm caters specifically to families — with extra-large family rooms, a welcoming accommodation policy, and exciting day trips suited for all ages. We love having little adventurers with us!

A few practical reminders: we are located remotely, and the 5-mile gravel road back to Benque Viejo is not something you'll want to tackle for forgotten essentials. We recommend consulting your family doctor to put together a basic medical kit for travelling in the tropics, including:

  • Ample sunscreen or UV-protective clothing
  • Insect repellent (natural formulas work well here — strong DEET is not necessary)
  • Triple antibiotic ointment for minor scrapes
  • Rubbing alcohol (helpful for occasional itchy bites)
  • Children's Tylenol and Benadryl
  • Any prescription medications your children require

Important Note for Single Parents

Travelling to Belize with a child but without the other parent? Many airlines require a notarized consent letter from the absent parent, along with a certified copy of their ID and/or the child's birth certificate. Failing to carry the correct documentation could result in being denied boarding — a stressful situation no family should face. We strongly recommend confirming the exact requirements directly with your airline well before your departure date.
