Things To Do in Belize
Belize is an adventurer's paradise with breathtaking wilderness and ancient Maya monuments around every corner. Whether you seek thrills, culture, wildlife, or all of the above, unforgettable experiences await right on our doorstep.
ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal)
Located in the heart of the Belizean rainforest and the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve, this sacred Maya cave leads into a series of chambers ending at a grand Cathedral where ancient ceremonies once took place. Your adventure begins with a 45-minute jungle trek crossing three rivers to reach the "Cave of the Stone Sepulcher."
Adventure Horseback Riding
A 1.5-hour guided ride through the lush Maya Mountains, beneath a jungle canopy alive with medicinal plants and exotic birds. Your destination is an unexcavated Maya mound, an ancient pyramid untouched for centuries. Dismount, hike to the summit, and take in breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding jungle.
Cave Tubing & Ziplining
Glide along cool underground rivers illuminated by your headlamp through two sacred Maya chambers. Then take to the treetops on a zipline that weaves through the rainforest canopy crossing the very same river far below. One of Belize's most popular and unforgettable combo adventures.
Barton Creek Cave
Paddle by canoe into the cool, dark caverns of Barton Creek Cave, hidden deep within a traditional Mennonite community. Silently waiting within the underground chambers are the remnants of an ancient Maya civilization. The journey there takes you across rivers, jungle trails, and through fragrant orange orchards.
Big Rock Falls
Venture deep into the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve for an intimate encounter with one of western Belize's most spectacular waterfalls. A short 15-minute hike through lush jungle leads to crystalline swimming pools carved into the rocks, the perfect reward after a morning of exploration.
Bird Watching
Join an expert guide at sunrise to witness the Keel-billed Toucan, Belize's national bird, at one of only 13 known locations in Central America where it can be observed in the wild. Your guide will also reveal the jungle's extraordinary medicinal plants and the incredible diversity of bird species, wildlife, and orchids that call the rainforest home.
Helicopter Transfer
Arrive at Hillview Farm in unforgettable style with a private helicopter transfer from Belize International Airport. Soar over lush jungle reserves, the Maya Mountains, rivers, and waterfalls, culminating in a breathtaking aerial pass over the ancient Maya city of Xunantunich, just 1.5 miles from the farm.
Xunantunich Archeological Site
Once the thriving home of ingenious Maya artisans, master builders, and early engineers, this remarkable site invites modern-day explorers to step into timeless history. Perched atop a natural limestone ridge, Xunantunich, "Maiden of the Rock," rises above lush valleys offering breathtaking 360° panoramic views stretching all the way to Guatemala.
Tikal Archeological Site (Guatemala)
Journey across the Belize border to one of the most spectacular ancient cities ever uncovered. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, Tikal's five great pyramids loom above the vast Maya ceremonial center. Clay artifacts, vessels, and stelae tell the stories of a civilization steeped in extraordinary practices, just a convenient day trip from Hillview Farm.
Caracol Archeological Site
Venture deep into the jungles of the Maya Mountains to reach Caracol, the largest Maya city in Belize and home to the tallest man-made structure in the country. The surrounding jungle is home to tapirs, jaguars, howler monkeys, toucans, and scarlet macaws, making the journey as remarkable as the destination.
Horseback Riding to Xunantunich
Explore the Cayo district, the heart of horse country in Belize, on horseback. Cross the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry before riding jungle trails to the Xunantunich ruins. The elevated vantage point on horseback opens up a unique perspective on the landscape rarely experienced any other way.
Maya Cooking Class
Embark on a culinary journey steeped in a thousand years of tradition. Using ancient methods still practiced by Maya families today, you'll prepare classic dishes, tamales, corn tortillas, and caldo, on the fogon, an authentic Maya stove, in a faithful recreation of a traditional kitchen.
Cacao Farm & Chocolate Making
Discover how ancient Maya people made chocolate, long before it became a modern indulgence. Using a traditional Maya stone to grind organic cacao beans into a paste, you'll mix the paste into a rich ceremonial chocolate drink, spiced just as the ancient Maya consumed it.
Ceramic Making in San Antonio
Visit the San Antonio Women's Cooperative, local artisans keeping Maya ceramic traditions alive in the modern world. Watch demonstrations of the ancient "coil method" and try your hand at creating your own piece of pottery. Round off the experience by making corn tortillas over a traditional fire hearth.
San Ignacio Town Market Day
Discover the perfect blend of history, wildlife, and culture. Explore the ancient wonders of Cahal Pech, get up close with vibrant iguanas at the San Ignacio Iguana Conservation Project, and wrap up with a flavourful Belizean lunch and lively interactions at the bustling town market.
The Belize Zoo
Located an hour from Hillview Farm en route to Belize City, the Belize Zoo is an extraordinary stop for animal lovers. Set across 29 acres of tropical savanna, over 50 native Belizean species roam in natural surroundings and knowledgeable guides bring each one's story to life, from the rare jaguar to the magnificent tapir.
Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve
High in the cool highlands of western Belize, the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve shelters 300,000 acres of protected pine forest and breathtaking natural monuments. Discover Thousand Foot Falls, the tallest in Belize and Central America, and explore the quarter-mile Rio Frio Cave, among many other wonders.
